Oily skin and shine

Oily skin still needs gentle care: harsh washing and skipping moisturizer can backfire.

Ingredients that help

  • Salicylic, glycolic, and lactic acids can reduce oiliness, but can be harsh: cut back if your skin gets irritated
  • Niacinamide, zinc, and clays are also widely used to control shine

What dermatologists recommend

  • Wash up to twice a day and after sweating with a gentle foaming cleanser, without scrubbing.
  • Choose products labeled oil-free and non-comedogenic, including makeup.
  • Still moisturize, ideally with a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher moisturizer.
  • Blot oil by pressing blotting paper on your face, rather than rubbing.
