Editorial & Evidence Standards
Last updated: October 23, 2026
Jouaxia exists to help you understand what's in your skincare. These standards explain how we research, write, review, and correct everything we publish, so you can decide how much to trust it.
What we publish
- Product pages: each product's full ingredient list, its pregnancy-safety rating with the reason, and common allergen flags.
- Ingredient pages: what each ingredient does and whether it's flagged for pregnancy.
- Routines and articles: step-by-step routines and blog articles about ingredients and skincare.
Where our information comes from
- Ingredient lists come from published INCI lists (the standardized ingredient names printed on packaging), gathered from ingredient databases such as INCIDecoder and from brands. Each product page links to its source.
- What ingredients do comes from the European Commission's CosIng cosmetic ingredient database.
- Pregnancy guidance comes from medical organizations and peer-reviewed research, including ACOG guidance via MotherToBaby, Mayo Clinic, and published reviews of skincare safety in pregnancy.
How we weigh evidence
We give the most weight to guidance from medical organizations and to reviews of many studies, then to individual peer-reviewed studies. We don't treat brand marketing, social media trends, or testimonials as evidence. When the evidence is limited, we say so: "not well studied" is not the same as "shown to be harmful," and we try never to blur the two.
How we write
- We explain what the evidence says and how strong it is, in plain language.
- We avoid fear-based words like "toxic" and "chemical-free." Everything is made of chemicals, and dose and use matter.
- "Natural" doesn't automatically mean safer, and "viral" doesn't automatically mean effective.
- Articles link to their sources.
- We don't make medical claims or tell you to start or stop a treatment.
How ratings are made
Ratings are calculated from each product's ingredient list using the published rules, the same for every brand. Ratings and ingredient pages are generated automatically from the data and rules described here. We spot-check them and fix errors as soon as we find them.
Who writes and reviews
Articles are written by the Jouaxia team and published under the Jouaxia name. Jouaxia isn't a medical provider. If an article has been reviewed by a doctor or other medical professional, the article will say so and name them.
Independence
Brands can't pay for a rating, to remove a flag, or for placement in search results or lists. Some links may be affiliate links; they never change a rating or what we write. If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly labeled as sponsored. See how we work with brands.
Corrections
If something looks wrong, such as an outdated ingredient list, a missed ingredient, or an error in an article, please send a correction. We check it against the current packaging or source, update the page, and re-rate the product if needed. When we make a significant correction to an article, we note it at the end of the article with the date.
Keeping things current
We review the rating rules when medical guidance changes and re-rate every product when the rules change. Brands reformulate, so always check the label of the product you buy.
Not medical advice
Everything on Jouaxia is general information. Please check your routine with your OB-GYN, midwife, fertility specialist, or dermatologist.
